| John Geldersma began carving totems in 1970. His Spirit Poles have evolved through the years into mostly natural poles carved out of Aspen trees. They are then colorfully painted while retaining the integrity of the original tree. The Spirit Poles are central to the artist's private mythology and invite meditation and solitary contemplation. Geldersma divides his time between his native Louisiana and Colorado. |
