John Himmelfarb uses abstract patterns in his paintings that are derived from the urban landscape and his interest in music. His puzzle-like forms and use of overlapping color resembles everything from a busy landscape to a detailed road map. His drawings and prints show an emphasis on pattern often combined with an imaginary hieroglyphic language. John Himmelfarb is a Chicago area artist endowed with a creative tradition, from his parents, established artists Eleanor and Samuel Himmelfarb.
