Susan Leopold builds intricate constructions utilizing steel, mirrors and photographs. She photographs abandoned urban sites such as empty swimming pools or school bathrooms then surrounds the photos with angled mirrors so both the viewer and image are endlessly reflected. The abandoned sites are given a human element through the interaction with the viewer. Photographs are also the basis for her drawings on translucent paper. The paper covers photographs of empty spaces creating a ghosting effect. Leopold is originally from the Chicago area and now lives in New York City.
